Other Programs
Social Services:
As a part of the intake process, we refer clients to needed services such as food stamps, housing subsidies and other emergency food programs. We work on behalf of our clients by directly contacting the appropriate agencies. We assist them step-by-step in filling out applications and receiving benefits. Because many of our clients are unaware of their eligibility to qualify for additional assistance, we help them to obtain coverage under every program in which they meet the criteria.
Clothing and Houseware Component: A clothing room is provided for needy families. A section of donated houseware and appliances is available.
Workshops /Class The workshops or classes will help individuals learn basic computer skills. Nutritional classes will help teach individuals/parents how to prepare healthier meals.
Free Tax Assistance Starting In February 09 by Appointment An essential part of the Food Bank's financial empowerment efforts, the Free Tax Assistance Program provides low- to moderate-income New Yorkers with free tax preparation services as well as information on how to access the various credits they are entitled to. As evidenced by the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) - which alone can be worth up to $6,360 for individuals and families - our free tax services can constitute a significant step from food poverty toward self-sufficiency.
Free Blood Prsure Screening We offer this service as well as counseling about the dangers of high blood pressure. If the client has high blood pressure we refer him/her to health services which are free to the needy.
